New Course Dates for Skills for Jobs

Skills for Jobs is a programme designed to help unemployed people with few or no qualifications back into work, training or education. We offer a range of courses to help you learn new skills that are needed in the workplace. We also help with choosing the right career path and with on-line job search. If you need help with developing your CV and completing application forms, we can do that too!

PC Technician Level 1
Gain an understanding of how a computer really works!
Starts 9th May (2 days per week)- Monday and Wednesdays for 6 weeks
9.30am-3.00pm

Customer Service Skills Level 1
Learn the skills required to deliver a quality service.
Starts Wednesday 11th May for 7 weeks (at the Crosland Moor Community Centre)
9.30am-12.30pm

Numeracy Level 1 & 2
A chance to improve your Math skills and gain a qualification.
Starts Thursday 5th May
1.00pm- 3.00pm

Literacy Level 1 & 2
A chance to improve your English skills and gain a qualification.
Wednesday 4th May
10.00am- 12.00pm

Word Processing Level 1
Use Word to create letters, leaflets and business documents.
Starts Tuesday 10th May
9.30am-12.30pm

MoneyStart Course
A 6 week course designed to help you learn more about financial literacy, debt management and local sources of help.
Time and date tba. Please contact the centre for further information.

UK On-Line My Guide
A free course for absolute beginners- all welcome.
Every Thursday 9.30- 11.00, 11.00- 12.30
Friday 9.30- 11.00, 11.00- 12.30, 12.30- 2.00, 2.00- 3.30
(Session needs to be booked)

Work Club
A chance for unemployed people to access IT facilities & get help and support with CV's, online job search and job applications.
Every Friday 9.30am- 12.00pm

IT Buddy Scheme


The IT Buddy Scheme has been running for four months, we now have well over 50 Kirklees residents receiving IT Tution and mentoring from 12 individuals across the Kirklees District. You can now access free IT Tuition in Paddock (The Village Hall, Huddersfield), The Longwood mechanics Institute (Huddersfield), The Lodge Training Centre (Batley), Thornhill Lees Community Centre (Dewsbury), The Hub (Kirkburton, Hudds), The Denby Dale Centre and Mirfield Library & Information Centre. We are also in dicsussions with other community centres and libraries to roll out the service to more users across the region.

If you do not qualify for the scheme please do not be put off as we are here to help and will advise you on where you can access adult education and skill development.
